Building systems

The right structure changes
what is possible.

Go lighter, span farther, build faster or combine systems intelligently. Cubora compares permanent building technologies against the site, use, programme and long-term performance.

Light Gauge Steel Framing

LGSF

Light by design. Permanent by engineering.

An engineered system of cold-formed, coated steel studs, tracks, joists and trusses. Factory-cut components are assembled into load-bearing walls, floors and roofs, then completed with specified boards, insulation, membranes and finishes. It is permanent construction—not a temporary cabin system.

Best suited for

Homes, villas, cottages, low- to mid-rise buildings and assessed rooftop additions

Why it works

High strength-to-weight ratio, dimensional accuracy and less wet work on site

Confirm before selection

Confirm spans, bracing, connections, corrosion protection, fire and acoustic build-ups, moisture control and approvals

Designed performance

Resilience is engineered into the whole building.

Material choice helps, but performance comes from the structural design, connections, envelope, site conditions and quality of execution working together.

Seismic design

We design for the applicable earthquake actions, soil and building importance. Lighter systems can reduce seismic mass, but stability, bracing, connections and a continuous load path still have to be engineered.

Earthquake-resistant—not “earthquake-proof”.

Corrosion control

LGSF uses galvanised or otherwise specified coated steel. PEB protection is selected for the exposure. Cut edges, fasteners, drainage, ventilation and separation from persistent moisture are detailed as one protection strategy.

Protected steel—not “rust-proof”.

Rain & moisture control

Roof falls, flashings, membranes, wall cavities, drainage and condensation control are designed around the site. The frame cannot compensate for a poorly detailed envelope.

System + envelope + workmanship.

Rooftop & vertical extensions

Add usable space without assuming the existing building can carry RCC.

Where a conventional RCC and masonry addition would introduce substantial dead load, an LGSF or steel–LGSF hybrid may reduce the added weight and shorten work on an occupied site. Lightweight does not mean automatic approval: the existing frame, foundations, load path and lateral stability must be verified first.

Assess an existing building

Structural auditExisting drawings, measured condition, distress and material strength.

Capacity & load pathFoundations, columns, beams, slabs, connections, wind and seismic resistance.

InterfacesWaterproofing, drainage, fire separation, services, access and construction sequence.

Approval before workEngineer-certified design and applicable local permissions.

How we recommend a system

The project decides. Not a preferred material.

We compare the complete building—not only the frame or the advertised construction speed.

Use, height & spans

What the building must carry, contain and allow over its life.

Loads & existing capacity

Dead, live, wind and seismic actions—including the capacity of an existing building.

Climate & envelope

Rain, humidity, heat, condensation, drainage, waterproofing and corrosion exposure.

Access & programme

Transport limits, erection space, available trades, construction sequence and target dates.

Fire, acoustics & approvals

Required ratings, occupant comfort, statutory checks and project documentation.
